Brunswick Heads 20 - 22 February 2009
A total of 16 of us made the trek south to meet at Brunswick Heads for the weekend. This was the first trip away where we have had to stay in a caravan park. The town offers a number of caravan parks with waterfront access and after careful thought we chose to stay a Massey Greene Holiday Park.
This caravan park offered us camping sites right beside the water which proved to be very good for quick water access all over the weekend and very close to the bar and the estuary system. The park was also very close to the township of Brunswick Heads and the local pub which is a beauty was within walking distance. Most of us just bought our food in the town for the entire weekend and ventured up to the pub for a nightly session. The food and cover bands that were playing were sensational. It proved to be a popular feature that we have not had on past trips, camping near a town.
The weeks leading up to the weekend had been extremely wet and the local river system and even the ocean nearby really had too much fresh in them for us to be successful at fishing. But a few of us did manage to score a fish or two. Holgi one of members lived in the town and provided us with excellent maps to guide us around the river system, the river certainly has some great spots to fish in but unfortunately as mentioned the fresh was spoiling our party.
We welcomed two new members on the weekend Nicole and Dave from Toowoomba, they fit right in and Nicole joined the other girls on the weekend Toni, Danielle and Megan to venture to some local markets on the Sunday Morning.
Overall another great weekend, enjoyed by all. Especially with such a great pub nearby. I have the feeling alot of our members want to go back and give it another go, when and if it finally stops raining for a while.
